About PhD Studies
Admission for the PhD Program is only possible if one of the professors in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science is willing to supervise the PhD student. Due to the limited number of students who can be supervised by each professor, the admissions for the PhD Program are restricted. A short description of the topics covered in the mathematics lectures (please do not just list the lecture names), a one page letter of motivation including a short description of the research interests of the candidate, 2 letters of recommendation (from teachers or professors) are required. Admission criteria would be based upon past academic performance and admission colloquium conducted by the Doctoral School. Doctoral School will require exclusive time commitment from its research students.
Possible research areas are: Algebra (adviser: Prof. Dr. Mirela Stefanescu), Analysis (adviser: Prof. Dr. Dumitru Popa). Partial Differential Equations (advisers: Prof. Dr. Silviu Sburlan and Prof. Dr. Dan Pascali).
The period of the doctoral studies at the Ovidius University of Constanta is the following: one year (2 semesters) for advanced studies (see Curricula) and two years for research and defending the thesis. There is no objection in finalizing the doctoral program before limit. The courses offered in the first year may be changed according to the scientific interests of the Ph D students.
